Mani Rathnam was supposed to kick-start this dream project much prior to ‘Ravanan’. With some calculations pertaining to the time required for making this grand project, he scheduled it for a latter point of period. According to the sources, late writer Sujatha had already penned the story and screenplay with 120 sequences, which will be slightly modified by most happening writer Jaya Mohan.

Vikram is reported of playing lead role in Tamil version while Mahesh Babu in Telugu. There has been a raging contestation between Bollywood actresses to be signed for this film.

The latest calls on airs are that Sun Pictures has shown keen interest over the project and may produce this film. However the other sources admit that it’s baseless rumor. Soon after the grand success of ‘Endhiran’, Sun Pictures was pulled into the picture of producing Shankar’s Rs.500Crore project with Rajnikanth and Kamal Haasan in lead role.

Meanwhile, a big-budgeted TV series based on ‘Ponniyin Selvan’ will be on airs in Makkal TV shortly.
