With the recent trend of remaking Hindi and Telugu movie in Tamil, Radha Mohan has newly tried remaking Kannada movie in Tamil through ’60 Vayadu Maaniram’.

Prakash Raj is an old man who is suffering from Alzheimer’s disease and has been taken care in a care centre. Vikram Prabhu remains to be without understanding his dad (Prakash Raj) when he is with him. He leaves his dad irresponsibly when he takes his dad out for a day before he plans to leave for his work to USA. On the other hand, Samuthirakani tries to hide a murder in a truck in which Prakash Raj accidently enters the same truck. How will Vikram Prabhu find his dad? What will happen to Prakash Raj after meeting Samuthirakani will be revealed in the climax!

Radha Mohan who always conveys very light emotions through his movies, has remade this movie from the Kannada movie, ‘Godhi Banna Sadharana Mykattu’ which deals the story of people who run behind work but fails in caring their parents with emotions. Having a very serious subject in the movie, the story seems to be diverted with illogical comedy and side tracks on the other hand. Overall the movie has apt music score, cinematography and editing carried over according to the budget consumed in the movie.

Although Vikram Prabhu is the lead in the movie, Prakash Raj has moved emotions deeply through his performance as an Alzheimer affected old patient. Vikram Prabhu has aptly conveyed the character of an irresponsible son of this generation in the movie which seems to be varied from the characters he has done in his previous movies. ‘Meeyadha Maan’ Induja has also added beauty with her space in this movie. Generally if we tell ‘Radha Mohan’s film’, we can definitely expect Kumaravel. He has done his part prominently in the character of a middle class person. Samuthirakani who has a rigid negative role has proved to be a ‘good villain’.

What works?

1) Story

2) Involvement of actors

What doesn’t work?

1) Screenplay

On the whole, having the strong core and Ilayaraja’s music throughout the movie, ’60 Vayadu Maaniram’ would have been creating more impact if it would have been more engaging with the clear message.
