Resembling Maestro Ilayaraja in many places

Following a decent graph of success with Pa Pandi, Dhanush and Sean Roldan have teamed up together again with ‘Velai Illa Pattadhaari 2’. Let us check with the musical analysis and its verdict.

Life of Raghuvaran - Nada Da Raja
Vocals: Dhanush, Yogi B
Lyrics: Dhanush, Yogi B

The song gets a stunning prelude with Yogi B offering a thunderstorm vocalism by the beginning and the distorted guitars in the backdrops. But as Dhanush starts intonating the song, excitements get declined as he tries to imitate Maestro Ilayaraja. The musical style by Sean Roldan, but the vocalism of Dhanush is too mediocre and some other singer would have been a good choice.

Angel of Raghuvaran - Iraivanai Thandha Iraiviye
Vocals : Sean Roldan, M. M. Manasi
Lyrics : Dhanush

The only commendable cherry-pick in this album, which imbibes to our senses instantly and Sean Roldan gives a wonderful intonation. But then, we tend to experience a Déjà vu of Maestro Ilayaraja style. MM Manasi has given a very laudable effort into the song, which is sure to become one of the best melodies for this year.

Torture of Raghuvaran
Vocals: Dhanush
Lyrics: Dhanush

This is a song that is close and similar to the theme of ‘What a Karvad’ from the first part, but doesn’t resemble anywhere in the tunes. It starts off on a medium paced note but lately runs into fast tempo with the instrumental quotients have its strong support and Dhanush befittingly gets its right with the rendition. This is going to be a deliberate and definite treat for fans in theatres.

Raghuvaran Vs Vasundhara - Dooram Nillu
Vocals: Dhanush, Shakthishree Gopalan
Lyrics: Sean Roldan

One more song in the album that has a unique and different styled music, somewhere representing the well computerized musical spell of Ilayaraja with Dhanush trying to imitate the voice of this legend…It would be better if he can render the song in his own style instead of trying to mimic Ilayaraja. The guitars and other musical accompaniment has been done with the style of retro period. The visuals for this song are already released and this might be getting something to impress the fans.

Vasundhara - The Empress Arrives

In most of the songs, we get to see Sean Roldan is slightly or to the best of inspirations is taken from the route of Maestro Ilayaraja. This one too with the orchestral instrumentals offer a similar scenario with the brass and strings having an appeal that is similar to the yesteryear albums, especially the background score of Ilayaraja in many movies. The mixing has been done with a best panache and it could have a better enhancement with the visuals.

Overall, Dhanush has been very much clear that the songs of VIP 2 shouldn’t resemble or interfere with the first installment. In this aspect, he has made it happen, but when analyzing the song has a whole, it is not the best of Sean Roldan as he made it with ‘Pa Pandi’. In most of the songs, the vocalizing of Dhanush and musical score by Sean Roldan seems to be inspired from Maestro Ilayaraja. Is it an intentional move or a coincidence?

Verdict : Resembling Maestro Ilayaraja in many places
