Long wait is what you always get from Aamir Khan, but when he comes to serve you a sumptuous treat, he never disappoints, irrespective of what genre the film falls into. With ‘Dangal’, the film based on real life inspiration from India’s celebrated yet doomed wrestler Mahavir Singh Phogat, who made his daughters Geeta and Babita break the barriers and score brownie points for the country Indian.
When Mahavir Singh Phogat (Aamir Khan) feels that his ambitious run towards scoring medals for his country have gone in vain, his only hopes are his daughters Geetha (Fatima Sana Shaik) and Babita (Sanya Malhotra). Going through the hurdles of pains and sacrifices, the father and daughters have to push up their boundaries and make the dreams come true.
You would have watched the trailer and got to know about nitty-gritty elements in this movie. You are pretty good in making guesses and to the least fan based favouritism, you would go to the stretch of lending comparisons with Chak De India and Sultan, but it’s Aamir Khan, where he stands out exceptionally different. What brings immediate thought into your minds is that no producer or actor would give a nod to this film at an ease when read as a script. But then to be more precise, it’s almost like an earnest inspiration, where you can lend the movie’s home video in your personal collections. Of course, Aamir Khan movies do give the ability to stealing our hearts. The first 30 minutes of the film travels with sluggish pace, where it maintains a very slow momentum, but then the screenplay gradually gains intensity towards the next level. The conflicts between a man and his dreams, between father and daughter, father and a so-called theoretical coach at National Sports Academy, everything is depicted with high intensity. When there is least scope for humour, the director tries to plant some smile chirping moments with the young daughters’ plans to thwart their father’s plans, the guy who travels with Aamir throughout the film. The scene where Aamir Khan tries to rent an Adult-theatre to view the video clippings of his elder daughter’s losing moments to give her instructions are just tremendous. Mark our words! For the first time, you’ll see the entire theatre go up for amazing applause when National Anthem is played, but we don’t want to reveal it for the Goosebumps will miss out. On the technical part, we have to definitely appreciate the editing by Ballu, who gives crisp cuts for the wrestling matches. Cinematography with faint brown laden tones is pretty grasping to the native depiction of Haryana.
This is a film that any actor, especially a superstar would definitely avoid. Who would want to be sporting a belly bounded grey haired loser? Though it’s a powerful role that would definitely take an actor to the most top levels, it wouldn’t a piece of cake for many, but Aamir Khan underplays in many scenes giving more room for Fatima Sana Shaikh and Sanya Malhotra to score the best. The scene where Fatima confronts her father getting him lose the battle on sand wrestling and boast about her new learned technique and the next sequence, where she deeply cries for her flaws over phone, she just gives an impressive note. The final sequence, where she keeps looking out for her father, who goes missing and the emotions she delivers are mind-blowing.
1. Aamir Khan
2. Star-cast and performances
3. Screenplay and technical aspects
What doesn’t work?
Nothing in particular! The film lives up to every quotient on perfect note.
Aamir Khan’s Dangal isn’t just about a biopic inspired with fictional note, but it gives a double impact of presenting a film based on strong feminism.
Verdict: One of the best films that change your perception of life!!!!
