62nd National Award winners – A moment of pride for Tamil cinema

This year has turned to be more fascinating and quite off an exhilarating moment for Tamil film fraternity and its followers for the winners have turned the spotlights upon Kodambakkam. Yes, winning 7 awards for the splendiferous spell in different arenas, the winners are so much delighted now.

First of all honours is the astounding performance of Bobby Simha who has bagged ‘Best Supporting actor male’ for ‘Jigarthanda’ following the most cute and beautiful little fille Uthara, daughter of renowned singer Unni Krishnan has bagged the National award for Best female playback singer (Azhagu in Saivam). Additionally, after sweeping the best laurels for his ‘Anandha Yaazhinai’ in Thanga Meengal, Na. Muthukumar yet again picks ‘Best Lyricist’ award. Dhanush-Vetrimaaran production ‘Kaaka Muttai’ wins ‘Best Children Film’ and Kuttra Kadithal by JSK Film Corporation wins ‘Best Regional Film in Tamil’. Vivek has won Best Editing for his wonderful work in Jigarthanda and G Dhananjayan, South Chief of UTV Motion Pictures has won for his best writing on ‘Pride of Tamil Cinema 1931-2013’, a compiled work of his research of Tamil cinema over the decades. The list of other winners is as follows.

Best actor male has been given to Vijay (Kannada movie Naanu Avanalla Avalu)
Best actor female has been given to Kangna Ranaut (Hindi movie Queen)
Best Director – Srijit Mukherji (Bengali Film Chotushkone)
Best Supporting Actor Male has been given to Baljinder Kaur (Haryanvi film – Pagdi The Honour)
Best Popular Entertainment Film has been given to Mary Kom
Best Choreography – Music Direction – Costume Design for (Hindi Film Haider)
Sukhwinder Singh of ‘Jai Ho’ Slumdog Millionaire fame wins ‘Best Male playback singer’ for Haider.
