The film is directed by cinematographer Vijay Milton and starred the same young cast of Pasanga. Goli Soda didn’t open to just good reviews, but also commercially excelled in box office. Engaging screenplay laced with unpredictable twist made Goli Soda an impeccable film.
2. Pannaiyarum Padminiyum (February 7)
Vijay Sethupathi managed to bounce back well with this poignant film that gave more importance to the classic car collection of PADMINI. Jayaprakash, Tulasi and their portions were very well written.
3. Thegidi (February 27)
It is a rare genre that is based on suspense mystery. But director Ramesh outperformed it with an engaging narration and decent performances by everyone in the crew including Ashok Selvan and Janani Iyer.
4. Cuckoo (March 20)
Director Raju Murugan completely spellbound us with a different journey that we had never undertaken before. Focalising completely on the world of blind, he proved that such persons are enlightened with purity and truth, especially in love. Attakathi Dinesh stunned us with a proficient performance.
5. Mundasupatti (June 13)
Village subjects aren’t often regarded as the favourite of many audiences. The makers offered a splendid treat breaking this formula and came up with a hilarious film based on the superstitious village of Mundasupatti that starred Vishnu Vishal and Nanditha in lead roles.
6. Sathuranga Vettai (July 18)
Dialogues, screenplay and colossal performance by star-cast including Natty pulled everyone into the theatres. The film marked the debut directorial of Vinoth and marked comeback of Mano Bala as producer.
7. Jigarthanda (August 1)
Chilling everyone’s spine with Pizza, Karthik Subbaraj made a remarkable commercial entertainer with new genre in Jigarthanda. The film stars Siddarth, Bobby Simha, Karunakaran and Lakshmi Menon in lead roles. Although, the film was lengthy in duration, it proved to be quite engaging.
8. Kathai Thiraikathai Vasanam Iyakkam (August 15)
Parthiepan managed to come up with a decorous comeback with this film and what created inquisitiveness among the audience is the director promoting boldly that THE FILM HAS NO STORY. The film starred newcomers in lead roles with an ensemble star-cast of Vijay Sethupathi, Arya, Vishal, Taapsee, Amala Paul, Prakash Raj and many others appearing in cameo.
9. Madras (September 26)
A thundering bounce back for Karthi and he easily regained his position in the list of A-league. Pragmatic issues with a drama of emotions and unpredictable twists made the film more convincing. Director Ranjith deserves the top of all praises.
10. Kaaviya Thalaivan (November 27)
Vasantha Balan had carved a niche for his prodigious films like Veyil, Angaadi Theru and Aravaan. Taking up an unconventional theme in the pages of music and drama history, he managed to gain everyone’s praises with Kaaviya Thalaivan that starred Siddarth, Prithviraj and Vedhika in lead roles. AR Rahman’s musical score was a major standout in this film.
