The most celebrated music director of Tamil cinema, GV Prakash makes his debut as an actor with the film Darling, a remake of Telugu hit film Prema Katha Chitram. Touted to be a horror-comedy, the film stars Nikki Galrani opposite GV Prakash in female lead with Karunaas, Bala and Naan Kadavul Rajendran in important characters... GVP has composed music for this film that comprises of five tracks.

Vandha Mala
Singers: Gaana Bala, Karunaas, Arun Raja Kamaraj
Lyrics: Arun Raja Kamaraj

Tamil cinema never goes in dearth of ‘Gana’ numbers when there is a love failure. GV Prakash reintroduces the same style of track blend with western fusion. Bringing together a bunch of unusual combination of famous singers like Gaana Bala and Karunaas together for the first time, the addition of Arun Raja Kamaraj adds up more pep to the track. The latter’s lyrical lines are yet again promising as well.

Unnale
Singers: Shankar Mahadevan & Shreya Ghoshal
Lyrics: Na. Muthukumar

Melodies are always adorned with decorations when GVP-Na. Muthukumar duo comes together. The song has soulful music, of course something we didn’t hear from GV Prakash for a very long time and the lyrics with clarity. Shreya Ghoshal and Shankar Mahadevan put up the icing of this melodic treat with splendid touch.

Sattena Idi Mazhai
Singers: GV Prakash & Megha
Lyrics: Na. Muthukumar

Sounds quite prototyped from GV Prakash, which sounds quite familiar with his previous compositions... Could have been slightly more enhanced as in ‘Unnale’.

Un Vizhigalil
Singer: Harini
Lyrics: Na. Muthukumar

Few singers posses the eternal magic, say for instance, versatile singer like Chitra, whose voice never fades and remains youthful. In the same league, there is Harini who surprises us suddenly with few tracks that remain outstanding for many years. Un Vizhigalil is one such exemplification with beautiful rendition and exquisite instrumentals in the backdrops.

Anbe Anbe
Singer: GV Prakash Kumar
Lyrics: Na. Muthukumar

While his previous rendition for Sattene Idi Mazhai would be termed as a mediocre, GV Prakash scores the best with this track. His energy is completely pleasing and he imbibes the feel of lyrical prominence rendered by Na. Muthukumar.

The Dead are back
Darling theme music

Eeriness conquers your souls as you hear this track in perfect surround system and preferably, well build headphones. Maybe, it’s little prototyped in places, but would ardently gain your favour by scaring us with visuals as we believe.

Darling has some promising numbers from GV Prakash and it holds your attention with melodic tracks – Unnale, Un Vizhigalil and Anbe Anbe. It’s quite a decent comeback for GV Prakash after Raja Rani that was released last year.

Verdict: Pleasing melodies by GV Prakash
