It looks like Kamal Haasan’s films are often getting acquainted to controversies. It happened with Vishwaroopam followed by the first look poster of Uthama Villain. Now it becomes with his remake of Malayalam movie ‘Drishyam’ titled Paapanasam set in backdrops of Tirunelveli with Kamal Haasan, Gauthami and Nivedha Thomas playing the lead roles. As the film started rolling, there broke out a controversial issue as filmmaker Satish Paul filed a suit against Jeethu Joseph and Kamal Haasan at Ernakulam for remaking the film without his concern as Drishyam itself is based on his novel ‘Oru Mazhai Kaalathu’. After taking a month time to read the novel and watch the film Drishyam, the judgement has been passed that both have lots of similarities and that the Tamil remake producers have to pay a fine of Rs.10lacs to the court or else ban would be placed on the film’s shooting. We will have to wait and watch if an appeal would be made against this suit or a payment of Rs.10lac fine is yet to be decided from the film crew.
