Robocop 2014 is a remake after 27 years of the original version. Is it true, haven't they changed even a single element in the movie ? Lets watch the movie and decide that in the bottom line of the review.
In RoboCop, the year is 2028 and multinational conglomerate OmniCorp is at the center of robot technology. Overseas, their drones have been used by the military for years - and it's meant billions for OmniCorp's bottom line. Now OmniCorp wants to bring their controversial technology to the home front, and they see a golden opportunity to do it. When Alex Murphy (Joel Kinnaman) - a loving husband, father and good cop doing his best to stem the tide of crime and corruption in Detroit - is critically injured in the line of duty, OmniCorp sees their chance for a part-man, part-robot police officer. OmniCorp envisions a RoboCop in every city and even more billions for their shareholders, but they never counted on one thing: there is still a man inside the machine pursuing justice.
Well as many already thought they tore the complete insides out from the original. I was hoping something would have survived but this was absolute disappointment. It lacks everything the original had, don't get me wrong I can do with less violence and less robotic ways. But actually I still wouldn't go for it, they made a sentimental movie about a guy that is in a suit which can jump, feel and be emotional towards his son. Robocop is no longer a machine to fight crime in future where everyone was afraid of the new machine in the streets. No, what we get is a hero in robotic suit with feelings and tears to go with it and that is it.
One of the major flaws of the movie is the fact the screenplay is in the end just leaving you hanging. And people may say set your thoughts about the original aside and see the movie for what it is.. To be honest I can't there is no justification for the mess they made with this one. It is turning Robocop in some sort of super hero which he never was, (misjudged by Ironman). They overdo the fact that Murphy still has feelings and almost bursts into tears when he sees his son after his incident. Even with the star power on board the characters are lifeless and one dimensional. Luckily most of the CGI, gun scenes, and actual action is pretty up tempo and makes you at least enjoy that a bit. The part where Robocop gets detached out of his suit was pretty good looking.
This remake is actually a great disappointment of the original version were the original version had an emotional quotient which people felt that actually a cop with this suit must come in real world. The main thing lacking in 2014 is that emotion were audience see this movie as a life of Alex Murphy and not as a Robocop.
Robocop- Must learn many things from Tamilnadu Police.
