Music director GV Prakash makes his maiden production with the film Madha Yaanai Koottam that stars newcomer Kathir and Oviya in lead role . The film also features novelist V.L. Ramamoorthy of 'Kutra Parambarai' fame, Vijay Chandrasekhar and many others in important characters. The film marks the debut directorial of Vikram Sugumar, a former associate of Balu Mahendra.

Shedding light on the film, director Vikram Sugumar said, "First and foremost I love to thank GV Prakash sir for giving me an opportunity to make my film. I have a lot of responsibilities on my shoulder as I come from the school of Balu Mahendra. If I don't do justice to this film, I will be credited as an unworthy person for being an assistant to Balu Mahendra sir. I got this opportunity to work in this film while penning dialogues for 'Aadukalam'. The film is a realistic drama set in backdrops of Theni and will showcase the natural lifestyle of the dwellers there, which hasn't change in spite of ages....

Adding more about the film Vikram says, "While listening to the script, GV Prakash assured that the film is completely on a differnet level and the output will be extraordinary. If not for GV Prakash sir, this film wouldn't have been possible. Although there are sickles (Arivaal) and Knives (Kaththi) in the film, we haven't exceeded the realism quotient anywhere. Oviya plays the role of a nursing student, who has come from Kerala to Theni to pursue her academics."
