The success of Kalakalappu makes it very clear that comedy films are preferred by the audiences any time and all the time. Movie buffs, generally, want to see films that are light and easy going. It does have a good effect on the mind and soul as comedy is always refreshing.

Similarly, Oru Kal Oru Kannadi also took a grand opening and is doing good business at the box office. The success of this film is certainly attributed to the antics of Udhayanidhi Stalin and Santhanam.

Right from Kalaivanar NS Krishnan to Santhanam, comedians have been an integral part of the Tamil cinema. MR Radha had a distinct style of acting that his Raththa Kaneer released in 1954, though dealt with a serious issue, had witty dialogues that has the audiences ponder over the ways of the society even today.

Chandra Babu also enthralled his audiences not just with his antics but with his ability to croon as well.

The Goundamani-Senthil combo worked wonders with their loud comedy; still a hot favourite among the movie buffs. The classic comedy that runs on the minds of the audiences even today is the ‘banana joke’ in Karagattakaran.

Vivek, known as the Chinna Kalaivanar, also decided to spread some messages for the society with his comedy. And this certainly had a good reach among the audiences.

Vadivelu’s body language and dialogue delivery has the audiences erupt in laughter the minute he appears on the screen and this is the power of comedy.

Nagesh’s sense of humour is extraordinary and he ruled the roost for long years having shared the screen space with stalwarts like Sivaji Ganesan, MGR, Rajinikanth and Kamal Haasan among others. Though this is not an exhaustive list, some comedians like VK Ramasamy, Cho Ramasamy, Visu, Janakaraj, Thengai Srinivasan, do find prominent places in the history of Tamil cinema for creating a laugh riot.
