The Madras High Court delivered a landmark judgement to prevent piracy. In a judgement delivered on May 17th, 2012, the High Court ordered a ban on all the file sharing sites which included Daily Motion, Torrent and Pirate Bay.

The Chennai-based Copyright Labs, which was entrusted with the job to check on piracy of 3 and Dammu, filed the petition at the court seeking a ban on these sites. Following the ban, several leading Internet Service Providers immediately blocked the sites. People trying to access these sites have been getting the message “Access to this site has been blocked as per Court Orders.”

Harish Ram, CEO, Copyright Labs, is reported to have said, “Instead of blocking specific URLs that were screening the movie, they blocked the whole sites… Anyway, enough damage has been done since the action was taken only 45 days after the movie got released… While Sites such as You Tube provide specific tools to remove content, thereby respecting the copyright order, others such as Daily Motion don't even reply to mails.”
