Music Review - Boss Engira Baskaran

Rajesh-Na.Muthukumar-Yuvan Shankar Raja: the trio had clearly demonstrated their skills and mastery over their arenas in ‘Siva Manasula Sakthi’. The songs were engrossing as it kept everyone heeding to its tracks over and again. ‘Oru Kal Oru Kannadi’ still keeps ringing over everyone’s track lists for its best music and spellbinding lyrics. This time, the same team strikes back with ‘Boss Engira Baskaran’ that more off mediocre tunes...

1. Ada Boss

Vocals: Sathyan

Lyrics: Na. Muthukumar

The title song sounds quite similar to ‘SMS’ intro song ‘MGR Illa Nambiyar Illa’. Both the lyrics and music incisively travel on the same style. Sathyan’s rendition is good and the instrumentals are average. The lyrical lines are so clichéd and there’s new to relish with this song.

2. Yaar Indha Penn

Vocals: Haricharan

Lyrics: Na. Muthukumar

Cherry-pick of this album as this song will sweep you on your senses. The decorous solo melody has captivating lyrics and Yuvan has played it mildly on instrumentals, enhancing the prominence of lyrics. Haricharan croons every line with an intense emotion and has taken every minute pause with more focus. The interludes played on flute-strings and accompanying beats on percussions offers more enhancements to the song.

3. Thathi Thaavum Paper

Vocals: Karthik

Lyrics: Na. Muthukumar

The song doesn’t evoke the listeners’ interests to any extent. It remains low throughout and hasn’t got any highlighting traits to praise about. Maybe, the funny visuals with foreign dancers on background and Sakthi Saravanan’s cinematography may work some wonders. It’s Karthik, who strives to put his best efforts for enlivening the soulless song.

4. Iyley Iyley

Vocals: Vijay Prakash

Lyrics: Na. Muthukumar

Really disappointing to hear such average tunes from Yuvan Shankar Raja. With so many best singers on tracks, he hasn’t tried creating his magic that was more prevalent in his previous albums. The lyrics are so tenuous and don’t bring the essence of romantic touch. Maybe, repeated airings on FM stations and satellite channels will make it a passable one.

5. Mama Mama

Vocals: Vijay Yesudas, Swetha

Lyrics: Na. Muthukumar

Finally, Na. Muthukumar tries highlighting his presence with a feet-tapping fast beat Kuthu number. The lyrics are grasping to senses and beats are vivifying. With Aarya and Nayanthara rocking the floors with their best, audiences will have a blast in theatres. Nothing new in its style, but you’ll surely enjoy the number.

Only couple of songs ‘Yaar Indha Penn’ and ‘Mama Mama’ strikes our attention right on the first time of hearing. Rest of the songs blatantly lacks some spirit and with vigorous promotions and stylish visuals, it will pick our interests late in time. But as on whole, it’s an average show by Yuvan Shankar Raja, whose previous albums ‘Theeratha Vilayattu Pillai’, ‘Paiyya’, ‘Goa’ and ‘Naan Mahaan Alla’ had more chartbusters.
